Major Concepts: 

The purpose of this course to prepare students for better financial management in a free enterprise system.  It will also provide the students with a strong background needed for college economics courses and real world employment.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not limited to the following:

·                    Financial planning and record keeping

·                    The relationship of supply and demand

·                    Borrowing money and interest calculation

·                    The stock market and investing

·                    Economic theory and consumer rights

·                    Taxes and the importance of tax planning

 

Special Note: 

1 semester of economics is required for high school graduation

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

·                    Identify characteristics needed to be financially independent

·                    Understand the stock market and different investment opportunities

·                    Graph supply and demand curves and determine how various forces affect the overall economy

·                    Balance out a check book and understand how to keep accurate records 

 

Grading:

Students will be grade on the following criteria:

·                    Homework assignments - 30% of grade will be based on quality of homework

·                    Tests – 70% of grade will be based on the tests and quizzes

·                    Grading Scale

                  A – 90% or above

                  B – 80-89.9%

                  C – 70-79.9%

                  D – 60-69.9%

                  F – Less than 60%
