Major Concepts:
The purpose of this
course is to provide students with knowledge of the internal combustion engine
and the proper use of tools and equipment involved in small engine repair. Students will also be required to perform a
complete overhaul on a Briggs and Stratton engine.
Content:
The content shall include but not limited to the following:
· The importance of shop safety and the safe use of various power equipment and welding machines
· Identification of tools and engine parts
· Overhaul of a Briggs & Stratton engine
· The proper use of micrometers
· The use of engine manuals
· How to trouble shoot a small engine
Special Note:
This mechanics class
requires safety glasses and coveralls to be obtained and worn by all students
in the class.
Intended Outcomes:
After successfully
completing this course, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate
proper safety and laboratory procedures in agricultural mechanics

Identify
the parts of a Briggs and Stratton engine
·
Complete
the overhaul of a small engine with no assistance
·
Trouble
shoot and repair small engines
·
Use
micrometers and other measuring devices
Grading:
Students will be graded on the following criteria:
· Attendance - 90% attendance required
· Tests and Assignments - approximately 50% of grade
· Work Grades – approximately 50% of grade will be based on the students clean up, safety, and work ethic in the shop
· Grading Scale
A – 90% or above B – 80-89.9%
C – 70-79.9%
D – 60-69.9%
F – Less than 60%
