Major Concepts:

The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge of electricity, residential wiring, and hydraulic theory.   

 

Content:

The content shall include but not limited to the following:

·                    The importance of shop safety and the safe use of various power equipment and welding machines

·                    Basic electrical terminology and Ohm’s law

·                    Residential wiring and diagramming electrical circuits

·                    Use of electrical test equipment

·                    Basic hydraulics

·                    Projects

 

Special Note: 

This mechanics class requires safety glasses and coveralls to be obtained and worn by all students in the class.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

·                    Demonstrate proper safety and laboratory procedures in agricultural mechanics

·                    Wire electrical circuits in a safe and proper manner

·                    Write out Ohm’s law and calculate electrical problems

·                     Identify and properly use the multimeter

·                    Name hydraulic components and possess a basic understanding of how hydraulics work

 

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria:

·                    Attendance - 90% attendance required

·                    Tests and Assignments - approximately 50% of grade 

·                    Work Grades – approximately 50% of grade will be based on the students clean up, safety, and work ethic in the shop

·                    Grading Scale 


A – 90% or above       

B – 80% - 89%           

C – 70% - 79%

D – 60% - 69%          

F – Below 60%
