Course Title:              AG 120 Introduction to the Agricultural Industry

Major Concepts: 

The purpose of this course is to enhance students’ perception of agriculture, its applications, and career opportunities.  Students will also be exposed to leadership training, agricultural mechanics, and basic animal science.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not limited to the following:

 

·                    Leadership through agricultural education

·                    Career exploration in agricultural science

·                    Basic animal science

·                    Exploring agricultural mechanics and safety

·                    SAEP (Supervised Agriculture Experience Program) and basic record keeping

 

Special Note: 

FFA membership is suggested and is available to all students taking 1 semester of agriculture per school year.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

 

·                    Identify proper safety and laboratory procedures in agricultural mechanics

·                    Evaluate and select quality dairy cattle

·                    Develop life skills for effective leadership

·                    Keep accurate records and have a basic knowledge of financial statements and general accounting practices 

 

Grading: Students will be grade on the following criteria:

 

·                    Attendance - 90% attendance required

·                    Homework assignments - approximately 50% of grade will be based on quality of homework

·                    Tests will be both objective in nature – approximately 50% of grade will be based on tests

·                    Grading Scale


A – 90% or above

                  B – 80-89.9%

                  C – 70-79.9%

                  D – 60-69.9%

                  F – Less than 60%
