This course is
designed to provide knowledge and skills pertaining to nutrition, reproduction,
diseases, breeding, genetics, and anatomy, and physiology in livestock.
Content:
The content shall include but not be limited to the following:
· A basic study of genetics and heredity
· Animal nutrition and ration calculation
· Breeding and Reproduction
· Animal diseases and preventative measures
· Animal products and meat production
· Animal organs, skeleton, and digestive tract
Special Note:
FFA membership is
suggested and is available to all students taking 1 semester of agriculture per
school year.
Intended Outcomes:
After successfully
completing this course, the student will be able to:

Explain
artificial insemination and discuss benefits

Identify
the parts of the male and female reproduction systems
·
Draw out
a
·
Identify
animal diseases when given symptoms and discuss control measures
·
Correct
identify various meat cuts from the animal carcass and understand their
nutritional value
Grading:
Students will be graded on the following criteria:
· Attendance - 90% attendance required
· Homework assignments - approximately 50% of grade will be based on quality of homework
· Tests will be both objective in nature – approximately 50% of grade will be based on tests
· Grading Scale
A – 90% or above
B – 80-89.9%
C – 70-79.9%
D – 60-69.9%
F – Less than 60%
