Course Title: Art

Course Length: Semester

Grade Level: 9-12

Major Concepts:

· Students will learn the use of various materials to produce drawings and paintings and mixed media works to the best of their abilities.

· Students will gain knowledge of the history and theories of design and the creative process.

Content:

Students will learn an appreciation of art and art forms. Students will learn terms and techniques of the following media:

• Pencil, charcoal, colored pencil and pastels
• Mixed media and collage
• Watercolor

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of art theory and/or history.
• Complete a drawing that demonstrates knowledge of realistic form, value and composition.
• Complete a painting that demonstrates knowledge of color, design and value.
• Demonstrate confidence with the various techniques and terms taught.

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria:

• A number of projects, not more than 9 and not less than 4, to be completed as time allows and to the best ability of the student.
• Student participation and willingness to put their best effort forth.
