Course Title:              Business Technology

Course Length:          Year

Grade Level:              10-12

Major Concepts:

One of the most vital purposes of public education is to prepare youth for a successful transition to the world of work and/or to pursue post-secondary education.  Even students who plan to attend college should be prepared for full or part-time employment.  Business education prepares students to meet the emerging needs of business and industry thus making them highly employable.

The Business Technology course incorporates reading, writing, composition, speaking, keyboarding, calculating, proofreading, and microcomputer skills into activities which teach business and marketing principles and concepts as well as human relations, career skills, work attitudes, productivity, and self-esteem.

Content:

Students will complete realistic assignments using technology.  Oral presentations will be encouraged on a regular basis.  Current events are used to keep the content relevant and all activities relate to modern business practices.  The course is contemporary, related to careers, the economy, inflation, interest rates, unemployment, educational opportunities, training in industry, and more.

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Recognize several aspects to the career exploration process and be able to continue in that exploration.
  • Possess enough basic skills with software programs to progress through other courses in high school.
  • Be comfortable enough in computer skills and design techniques to further their experience in the business world through Desktop Publishing or Accounting.

Grading:

Grading will be done in accordance with the school policy grading scale.

Attendance grade - 10% of the semester grade.

I strongly believe in attending school on a regular basis.  So you do earn a grade for your attendance based on the following absences:
