Major Concepts: 

Computers are a vital part of our society that you will need to know to succeed in whatever it is you choose to do.  This class is designed to give the student an introduction to several aspects of technology, software applications, enhance your employment, communication, and human relation skills, as well as expose you to careers.  It is intended to give you an overview of the Information and Communication industries and the technologies inherent therein.

 

This is a graduation required course.  The intent of this course is that the student will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in their education process, job searches, and life in general.

 

Content:

The content shall include but is not limited to the following:

  • Student will be able to use Word proficiently.
  • Student will be able to demonstrate use of PowerPoint software program.
  • Student will be able to show basic competency in the Excel spreadsheet program.
  • Student will be able to demonstrate use of the Publisher program.
  • Student will be able to demonstrate use of the digital camera and scanner.
  • Student will be able to identify various aspects of the computer parts.
  • Student will be able to identify working aspects of Windows and the operating system.
  • Learner will be able to put together an advanced start to a career portfolio.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Recognize several aspects to the career exploration process and be able to continue in that exploration.
  • Possess enough basic skills with software programs to progress through other courses in high school.
  • Be comfortable enough in computer skills and design techniques to further their experience in the business world through Desktop Publishing or Accounting.
