Major Concepts:
The main purpose of this course is to increase student knowledge and understanding of the writing process, as well as expose them to various pieces of literature. This course will introduce them to new writing styles and techniques that they will be able to use in higher level classes.
Content: The content shall include but be limited to the following:
· Students will expand their understanding from basic sentence structure to more complex sentences with proper punctuation.
· Students will learn the eight parts of speech.
· Students will learn the parts of an essay and how to use unified writing.
· Students will be able to appreciate and use a wide variety of contemporary and classic written works.
Intended Outcomes:
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

Understand how writing and reading is a vital
part of their daily lives.

Continue their writing and reading careers in
high school with an excellent base knowledge to build on.

Feel more confident in their own
writing and reading abilities.
Grading: Students will be graded on the following grading scale:
· 90%-100%----A
· 80%-89%-----B
· 70%-79%-----C
· 60%-69%-----D
· 59% and below---F
