Major Concepts:
The major purpose of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of how communication works. This will introduce the students to public speaking, interpersonal communication, and intra personal communications to help them become better communicators.
Content:
The content shall include but not be limited to the following:
· Students will use various techniques to improve their skills in listening.
· Students will learn the proper form for outlining and preparing speeches.
· Students will understand the dynamics of communication on a daily basis.
· Students will learn how to share opinions orally to persuade, inform and entertain others.
Intended
Outcomes:
After successfully completing this course, the students will be able to :
· Use an outline format for speaking, writing, and note taking.
· Recognize the dynamics of effective communication.
· Feel more confident when asked to speak in front of their peers.
Grading:
Students will be graded on the following criteria:
· Attendance and participation-----20%
· Homework and terminology------10%
· Speeches-------------------------------50%
· Tests and quizzes--------------------20%
Special Note:
This is a class that is based mainly on in-class work and activities. It is vitally important that students miss as little time as possible.
