Major Concepts:
This course is designed to expose students to knowledge and
skills common to housing, interiors and furnishings.
Content:
The content shall include, but not limited to the following:
- Examine
housing needs and choices for individuals and families
- Analyze
components of housing design and construction
- Analyze
components of interior space and planning
- Analyze
career paths within the housing, interiors and finishing industry
- Demonstrate
design and presentation skills
Intended Outcomes:
After successfully
completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Draw floor plans
- Evaluate floor plans for circulation
paths and furniture groupings.
- Coordinate furnishings for rooms with a
dwelling using both the elements of design and the principles of design
- Design wall groupings for formal and
informal balance
- Choose colors appropriate for the
activities to take place with a specific room
Grading:
Students will be graded on the following criteria:
- Written
assignments
- Projects
- Quarter
project will be the designing of a studio apartment floor plan, the layout
of the apartment, the furnishing chosen and he color scheme.
- Semester
project will be the drawing, designing, constructing and furnishing of a
house by the class.
