Major Concepts:

This course is designed to expose students to knowledge and skills common to housing, interiors and furnishings.

 

Content: 

The content shall include, but not limited to the following:

 

  • Examine housing needs and choices for individuals and families
  • Analyze components of housing design and construction
  • Analyze components of interior space and planning
  • Analyze career paths within the housing, interiors and finishing industry
  • Demonstrate design and presentation skills

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

 

  • Draw floor plans
  • Evaluate floor plans for circulation paths and furniture groupings.
  • Coordinate furnishings for rooms with a dwelling using both the elements of design and the principles of design
  • Design wall groupings for formal and informal balance
  • Choose colors appropriate for the activities to take place with a specific room

 

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria:

 

  • Written assignments
  • Projects
  • Quarter project will be the designing of a studio apartment floor plan, the layout of the apartment, the furnishing chosen and he color scheme.
  • Semester project will be the drawing, designing, constructing and furnishing of a house by the class.
