Major Concepts: 

The major purpose of this course is to develop the language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish.  Emphasis is also put on learning to appreciate the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not be limited to the following:

Students will learn:

 

  • to listen and understand Spanish-speakers who speak at normal speed,
  • to pronounce Spanish words correctly through plays, dialogues, etc.,
  • to read and translate simple texts,
  • the nine parts of speech and how to use them in sentences,
  • to conjugate regular and a few irregular verbs,
  • to make nouns, articles and adjectives agree in number and gender,
  • to form sentences correctly to write letters, essays and other assignments,
  • to appreciate Spanish food, music, festivals, customs through cultural activities.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

 

  • take higher-level classes in Spanish,
  • listen, speak, read and write simple Spanish,
  • greater understand grammatical structures,
  • appreciate the Spanish-speaking world.

 

Grading:  Students will be graded on the following criteria:
