Major Concepts: 

Students will explore the language of algebra in verbal, tabular, graphical, and symbolic forms.  Problem solving activities and applications encourage students to model patterns and relationships with variables and functions.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not limited to the following:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbers in fraction, decimal, and whole number form.
  • Rearrange equations to solve for “X”.
  • Find percentages and change percents to decimal and fraction form.
  • Solve single variable proportions using the “cross multiply and divide” technique.
  • Functions, domain, and range.
  • Use formulas to find slope and write the equation of a line in slope intercept form and standard form.
  • Measures of central tendency.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course:

  • The student will have the math skills required for intermediate algebra or geometry.

 

Grading:

Students are graded on all homework, including book work and worksheets; they are also graded on quizzes and tests.
