COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Subject area:              Physical Education

Course Title:              Boys Conditioning

Course Length:          Year

Grade Level:              9-12

 

Major Concept:

The purpose of this course is to develop speed, agility and strength through a comprehensive conditioning program.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not limited to the following:

·        Flexibility exercises                                          

·        Speed Development

·        Agility Enhancement

·        Strength Training

·        Proper stretching techniques

·        Proper running form

·        Using correct form for lifting weights

·        Cardiovascular endurance

 

Special Note:

Proper instruction on safety and spotting techniques will be enforced on a daily basis. The workout routine will vary in intensity due to games and other events affecting physical performance.

 

Intended Outcome:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

·        Increase speed, footwork, strength, and cardiovascular endurance.

·        Understand how the body reacts to stimuli.

·        Have confidence in their daily tasks and have a greater appreciation and respect for their bodies.

 

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria:

·        Effort-              5 points given daily.

                              5 points taken away if no effort is put out daily.

·        Attendance-     If the student is in school, they will dress down. Failure to do so will result in a 5 point deduction. No dress cannot be made up.

·        Behavior-         Students will obey all lifting rules and instructions. Failure to do so will result in a 5 point reduction and warning. Upon the third warning, the student will be asked to leave the class.

·        Dress-              The student will wear black shorts and a white Melba shirt. No open toed shoes are allowed. Students will not be allowed to wear necklaces, hoop earrings, or bracelets. Failure to follow this rule will result in a 5 point grade reduction.
