Title: Anatomy and Physiology
Course
Length: Semester
Grade
Level: 11 and 12
Major Concepts: The major purpose of this course is to provide students a firm understanding of the fundamental anatomical terms and structures. This class aims to provide students opportunities to explore scientific areas independently.
Content:
The content includes but is not limited to the following:
· Human skeletal system (all bones and several major structures).
· Digestive system (major organs and their roles).
· Cardio-pulmonary system including detailed anatomy of the heart.
· Nervous system including anatomy of the eye and brain.

Intended Outcomes:
After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:
· Relate functioning of body systems to their underlying structure and compare how different organisms have modified anatomy in order to live within their niches.
· Understand basic anatomical vocabulary as it relates to specific systems/regions of the body.
· Use dissection tools correctly in order to facilitate learning of anatomy.
· Conduct independent research including analysis of primary literature and report findings using several methods (presentation as well as written).
Grading: Students will be graded on the following criteria:
Homework and classwork................... 25%
Practicals and quizzes.......................... 45%
