Major Concepts: 

This course is designed to examine soil and plant relationships that affect the production of food and fiber.

 

Content:

The content shall include but not be limited to the following:

·                    The elementary study of soils and land evaluation

·                    Plant Anatomy

·                    Plant Identification

·                    Plant processes and taxonomy

·                    Plant growth and development

 

Special Note: 

FFA membership is suggested and is available to all students taking 1 semester of agriculture per school year.

 

Intended Outcomes:

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

·                    Discuss the function of soil as related to plant growth, development, and maintenance

·                    Identify crop and weed plants

·                    Explain the basic plant processes

·                    Evaluate a plot of land and determine its suitability for growing crops

·                    Identify different plant parts and taxonomy   

 

Grading:

Students will be graded on the following criteria:

·                    Attendance - 90% attendance required

·                    Homework assignments - approximately 50% of grade will be based on quality of homework

·                    Tests will be both objective in nature – approximately 50% of grade will be based on tests

·                    Grading Scale

                  A – 90% or above

                  B – 80-89.9%

                  C – 70-79.9%

                  D – 60-69.9%

                  F – Less than 60%
