COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Subject Area:  Geography

Course Title:  World Geography

Course Length:  Semester

Grade level:  10

 

 

Major Content:  We will be studying World Geography focusing on the geography, climate and culture of varies parts of the world.  The areas to be covered include:  Planet earth, the earth’s environment, and the earth today.  We will be touching on the following places:  U.S.A., Canada, Europe, CIS, Latin America, Africa, Middle East. India, China, and Japan.

 

Academic Procedure:

1.      Course activities will include: reading from the text and answering questions, daily notes, group work worksheets, videos and written essays.

2.      Grades are calculated on a point system.  Students need to stay current.  It is possible to get so far behind it is impossible to catch up.

3.      If work is late or incomplete students will lose points.  This will cause their grade to be lowered.  All work must be legible or it will not be accepted.

 

Intended Outcomes:

1.      Master a broad range of geographical knowledge.

2.      Demonstrate an understanding of geographical differences world wide.

3.      Use critical thinking skills:  Analyze, interpret, evaluate, compare and contrast, cause and effect.

4.      Recognize and understand environmental and cultural issues.

5.      Utilize graphs, pictures, cartoons, and maps to produce original thought.

6.      Use geographical data to support a position in a written essay.

7.      Use technology to enhance learning opportunities.

8.      Learn to be a problem solver.

Daily assignments      - 15%
