Mission
The mission of the Melba High School Library Media Center
is to help prepare students to be effective, engaged, and empowered citizens
in the 21st century.
In our increasingly globalized society with information increasing exponentially,
students need problem solving and critical thinking skills related to ICT (Information,
Communication, and Technology) to become creative and life long learners
in the 21st century.
Goals:
• Assist students in the use of technology as a tool
to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information for academic and
real world applications
• Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate an understanding of
the ethical and legal issues related to access and use of information
• Help students understand the influence media has on our beliefs and
behaviors (point of view, fact and opinion)
• Provide students with the necessary resources to make informed decisions
• Facilitate students global awareness to understand:
•Other nations and cultures
•Address global issues
• Promote a life long love for reading
Process:
• Work actively with classroom teachers to develop inquiry
based lessons where students will access information efficiently and effectively,
evaluate information critically and competently, and use information accurately
and creatively for their current information problem
• Use the Big 6 problem solving process
as the framework for applying ICT skills. The Big 6 also included all three
of Robert Sternberg’s Successful
Intelligence , analysis, creativity and practicality.
• Integrate Standards
for the 21st-Century Learner developed by AASL American Association of School
Librarians, NETS National Education Technology Standards, with Idaho Content
Standards.
• Use the curriculum maps developed by the Partnership
for the 21st Century, to infuse 21st century skills into the core subject
area curriculum.
• Student members of the Mustang Readers’ Committee will assist
in selecting current and engaging materials on field trips to local booksellers.
