This class is for students who love to write, share their writing with others, and experiment with what words can do on a page.
This course includes instruction in the following genres: memoir, short story, poetry, essay, drama, and children’s literature. Students will also be required to read and respond to the work of published authors in each genre.
A variety of writing exercises will be completed that will enable students to become better at the craft of writing.
Students will also learn about the publishing industry. Major assignments will be submitted to writing contests and various publishing companies.
Success in this class is based on the following assumptions:
- Writers observe the world and have something to say about it.
- Writers write a lot and on a regular basis.
- Writers read widely and deeply.
- Writers share their work with audiences.
