Melba High School Constitution
Preamble:
We the students of Melba High School, in order to establish a representative form of government, encourage good school citizenship, promote student and faculty cooperation, foster a common interest in school classes and responsibility for the welfare and good order of the school, do ordain and establish this constitution for the High School of Melba, Idaho.

The Melba High School honor code is: Each person is responsible for his/her own actions and the actions of others when they infringe on his/her rights.
Article I: (Name of the organization and membership)
Section I: This organization shall be known as the Associated Student Body of Melba High School.
Section II: Any student who abides by this constitution, pays the required fees, and meets Board of Trustee policies, is a member of this organization and is entitled to all membership privileges.
Section III: Student body fees are payable at registration. When the fees are paid, the student will receive a student activity card. This card entitles the holder to free admission to all home athletic contest and other functions sponsored by the Student Council and identified him/her as a member of the Associated Student Body of Melba High School.
Article II (Officers and their duties)
Section I: The officers of this organization will be a President, who is a Senior during his/her term, a Vice President who a Junior or Senior during the term, a Secretary, a Treasurer, Representative, and a Spirit Leader.
Section II: The Student Body officers, the Student Council Advisor, and the principal will plan all student assemblies.
Section III: The President shall preside at all student body and student council meetings. He/she has the power to appoint special student council committees and to decide when club representatives are entitled to vote.
Article III: (Officers, their qualifications, and installations)
Section I: To qualify for a student body office, a person must meet the requirement of Article II, Section I, and have a 3.0 or B average during the semester preceding elections. If an officer consistently has a grade average below 3.0 or B, or is not worthy of the office for any reason, the Student Council can declare his/her office vacant by a two-thirds vote of the council membership. Section II: Election of Student Body Officers will be held in the following Manner:
A.) Each person who intends to run for a student body office will obtain a petition signed by the principal. The petition must also be signed by eight members of the student body, excluding Seniors. A member of the student body may sign only one petition for each office. The petition is returned to the student council on the date decided by the council and the advisor.
B.) The names of all candidates returning valid petitions will appear on the primary ballot. The date of the primary election is set by the student council. The names of the two candidates for each office receiving the highest number of votes will appear on the General Election ballot.
C.) The ballots cast in the election are tabulated by the advisor and any officers he/she may request to help. The results will be announced as soon as possible.
D.) All candidates will be presented to the student body and will give a campaign speech during an Assembly. The date is always to be chosen by the student council.
E.) The candidates who recieve the majority of the votes for each office will be declared elected. In any case of a tie, a run-off election will be held. Tabulation of the ballots will be done as soon as possible.
Section III: The Installation of Student Body Officers shall be held in the following manner:
A.) Student Body Officers shall be Installed at a general assembly and shall hold office until their successors are duly elected and qualified. b. They shall be installed bythe immediate passed student body officers.
ARTICLE IV: (How to run)
Section I:
A.) The voting members of the Melba High School Student Council will be at officers of the student council and each class President.
B.) A representitive selected by the principal will serve as the advisor of the student council.
C.) All actions od the student council are subject to the final approval of the Board of Trustees.
D.) The meetings of student council are called by the student body president or the advisor.
