TARDY POLICY

The tardy policy for Melba Middle School is as follows:

Students may have a maximum of three tardies per class. On the fourth tardy in a single class, the student will be sent to the office and will be disciplined accordingly.

Disciplined accordingly is defined as:

4 tardies Parents notified

5 tardies Lunch detention for two days

6 tardies Lunch detention and conference with parents

7 tardies One day in-school suspension

8 tardies May not participate in ANY extra curricular activities (i.e. sports, dances, assemblies,etc.)

 

New Promotion Policy

PATHWAYS TO PROMOTION
Students will have two options to progress to the next grade.

Option 1 Traditional: Students will pass all core classes a minimum of three out of the four quarters. Core classes include: Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies, and Language Arts. If you earn a passing grade for at least 3 quarters in each of the core classes then you progress to the next grade.

Option 2 Alternative: Student must meet #1 and then at least one of the other two requirements:

1. Reach proficiency on the Spring Math, Reading, and Written Language ISAT or Meet annual growth as determined by the state.

And one of the following:

2. Finish the year with a 2.0 accumulative GPA.

3. Misses no more than 12 days of school during the year.

If a student meets two out of three of these requirements they can then progress to the next grade.

Alternative


Pass at least 3 quarters of the following courses:
Must meet #1 and then at least one of the other two requirements


Math
1. Reaches proficiency on the Spring Math, Language, and Math ISAT or makes adequate growth.


Science


Reading
Must meet one of the following:


Social Studies


Language Arts
2. Finish the year with a 2.0 accumulative GPA


If a student earns a passing grade for at least three quarters in each of the above classes, they will go to the next grade.


3. Miss no more than 12 days of school during the year.


If your student meets at least #1 and then either requirement 2 or 3 they will go to the next grade.

Note: Students on an IEP or ILP may be exempt if noted in the IEP or ILP.
