Technology Director

The Melba School District is seeking a full time Technology Director for a permanent position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Technology-related discipline or a minimum of 5 year’s experience as a technology manager, specialist or director of a network system
  • Demonstrated effective management skills – leadership, planning, budgeting, evaluation and effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective staff and public relations skills
  • Leadership experience in network/computer system management, hardware selection and deployment, system troubleshooting, and system maintenance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer and telecommunication capabilities, operations, networking principles, protocols, and infrastructure
  • Demonstrated proficient in the use of standard software packages
  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds and perform moderately strenuous tasks (e.g. carrying computer equipment up and down stairs) and to climb ladders to access equipment and wiring
  • Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

Reports to: District Superintendent

Primary Function:

Direct and oversee the School District’s Technology Services including planning, purchasing, maintenance and repair of the phone system, video systems and computer networks, software for system operations, and hardware.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the District technology budget
  • Apply for technology grant funding as opportunities become available including E-rate funding
  • Maintain phone, video and computer network systems directly or indirectly by assigning specialists or contracting, within budget parameters, with technology services companies
  • Provide software, including system software, upgrades to assure efficient use of technology within the District
  • Establish firewalls, virus protection and other measures to assure efficient use of technology and to secure systems and individual computers from inappropriate access or use
  • Oversee the District’s Technology Committee and be responsible for writing and updating the District’s Technology Plan and for complying with state and federal requirements related to such plan
  • Establish a system for handling computer problems including methodology for defining the problem, prioritizing work schedules for technology staff, and completing necessary repairs/replacements in a timely fashion
  • Assist users in the design and maintenance of District and school websites
  • Supervise and evaluate technology department staff
  • Represent the District at area and state technology organization meetings
  • Attend vendor seminars and training classes and regularly read technical publications and periodicals in order to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Perform additional/other technology services as assigned by the Superintendent

Evaluation:

The Technology Director is evaluated annually by the Superintendent. Evaluation is to be based upon fulfillment of duties and responsibilities listed in this job description as determined by observation, review of records and reports, and administrative judgment of the effectiveness and quality of technology services.

Terms of Employment:

  • The Technology Director position is a classified at-will position.
  • Work Year: Full time 12 month position

The Melba School District is seeking a full time substitute elementary teacher for a temporary position between October 14, 2014, and January 20, 2015.
