Monsanto Presents Grant to Melba School District

On Monday, July 28, 2014 Monsanto presened a check for $8,000 to Melba School District in support of their new greenhouse project. Ken Pieksma, Monsanto Vegetable Global Production Specialist, encouraged the district to continue expanding and improving their agriculture program. He expressed Monsanto's desire to help communities improve.

Andrew Grover, Superintendent, added that this new greenhouse will allow students from Melba High School to partner with local ag businesses and be prepared to pursue their career goals. Jake Silver, Agriculture teacher at MHS, added that this addition will provide a great opportunity for students to learn new math and science skills in this hands-on classroom.

Megan Smith welcomed the group and thanked Monsanto for their support of the Melba Agriculture Program. Ms. Smith and Jerod Berrett were in attendance, representing the student body of Melba High School. The district has worked closely with State Representative Gayle Batt on this grant and she commended the school for their efforts in expanding the Pathways Program and their desire to provide a wider opportunity of learning for their students.

Melba anticipates the greenhouse will be in operation for the 2015-2016 school year.
